A full day field trip has been organised for delegates to visit:
Midway has operated a woodchip processing and export facility on the Port of Geelong since 1985. Its current annual exports of approx. 750,000 green metric tonnes of hardwood and softwood chip are destined for the Japanese pulp and paper industry. Midway also owns and/or manages 26,000 hectares of both eucalypt and radiata pine plantations which supports resource supply to the Geelong facility.
The site tour will include an overview of log receival and storage, processing of both large and small diameter hardwoods, chip stockpile management and chip reclaiming facilities.
SPE Management (SPE) is a joint venture operation between AKD Softwoods (Sawmiller) & HVP Plantations (Plantation Owner) operating a purpose built chipmill at the Port of Geelong Since 1997. With a capacity of ~450K GMT pa from roundwood and a sawmill chip receival on site, utilising GrainCorp storage and loading facility. More details about SPE at www.spemanagement.com.au
The Pentarch Container Packing Facility
The tour will include:
Scaling and quality assurance demonstration of a delivered load; Presentation on yard operations; Presentation of the MB Capture System (fumigation capture system) and Delivery of load to container and packing of the container. Please click this link to read more.
All visitors on site will be supplied with a hard hat and a high visibility vest. It is requested that you wear enclosed toe shoes.
Following the visit to SPE, delegates will enjoy lunch in Geelong before returning to Melbourne and the Pentarch Container Packing Facility.
